Visitor Information

Macedon Ranges - Visit Macedon Ranges today

Welcome to the Macedon Ranges!

Located right on Melbourne’s doorstep, the Macedon Ranges is a picturesque region of fertile river valleys, rolling hills and tree-clad ranges, woven together by dozens of diverse towns and tiny villages.  Each town is a thriving community buzzing with its own artistic, historic and culinary energy.

Rolling farmland and bluestone cobblestones, contemporary art and rural charms, dramatic landscapes that change with the seasons,  world class events and out-of-the-way hiding places combine to make the Macedon Ranges region an exceptional part of Victoria, just a short drive from Melbourne and other major towns in the state.

On the way through the Macedon Ranges, you’ll pass sights that are signatures of the region - historic stone buildings, gums and elms lining the roadside, glimpses of Mount Macedon at every corner, signposts to cellar doors and fresh farm produce, and boutique shops with windows full of treats.

All hint at something worth exploring in detail.

The Macedon Ranges is less than an hour’s drive from Melbourne along the Calder Freeway, and only half that time from Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport.

What you get in the Macedon Ranges is honesty and an authentic passion unaffected by the praises being heaped upon it. People who have time up their sleeves – time to give directions, time for a wave, time for a personal tour. Don’t be surprised when the woman who owns the place opens the back door to show you ‘something special’ she has been working on.

Wander the streets of sleepy towns to look for some bargains, be taken by the natural beauty of the Macedon Ranges Regional Park and Hanging Rock, eat and drink your way around the region, or feast your eyes on the floral wonderlands of world class nurseries and private gardens that are open to the public.

Take your time. Give in to it.
